WHO WE ARE

The Greek Association of Paediatric Surgeons, the successor of the former "Greek Pediatric Surgery Association" was founded in 1975. It is based in Athens and currently represents about 160 pediatric surgeons, while it also has provisional members who are pediatric surgery residents and associate members from other related specialties.

The purpose of GAPS is to promote paediatric surgery in Greece and to utilize the work performed by Greek Paediatric Surgeons for the benefit of the social community and the scientific stature of the surgeons themselves.

This purpose is achieved by organizing scientific seminars and symposia at regular intervals, and a biennial congress, which constitutes the pinnacle of the society's scientific events, with the participation of distinguished pediatric surgeons who are active both within and outside Greece. Doctors from other specialties with a common interest also participate in this congress. The society, with its presence in cities outside major urban centers, helps improve the management of pediatric surgical problems where access to the center is not easy.

Finally, it is a member of many European and global Peadiatric Surgery Societies with elected representatives, such as:

  • η European Union of Medical Specialists
  • European Union of Paediatric Surgical Associations & World Federation of Associations οf Paediatric Surgeons

in whose events it participates consistently.
